Originally from Delaware, I discovered a passion for music and digital media production at early age. After spending years developing my talents as a music producer, I was accepted to Berklee College of Music where I spent 4 years studying electronic production, synthesis, and audio programming. Living in Boston also allowed me educate myself from other colleges and networking events. I became extremely interested in web design and software development and began to take on new projects as a freelance web consultant. After a summer of reading books, working two web-related jobs, and coding till early hours of the morning, my identity began to shift into the developer I was becoming. A year later, I still continue to learn and discover best practices for semantic websites and modern web applications. As a front-end developer, audio specialist, and aspiring entrepreneur, I find joy in production, not only from the product itself, but from the community and customers that share it.

Personal Statement

"Think possibilities," a motto that I remind myself about to help me step back from a problem and create options. It was once said by John Maxwell that, "leaders have options". Generating ideas is the nature of a human being and is a process that, with persistant effort, proves to unveil amazing solutions for unthinkable problems.

I’ve always been fascinated with Apple and their products. My mother, an apple distinguished educator, introduced me to the world of macintosh at an early age and I instantly fell in love with it. Ever since then, I’ve taken a long technological journey as a digital media creative, music producer, and now software developer. Through each venture, I learn more about the importance of, what I like to call, evident production. I believe that simplicity and focus among all aspects of a system are the keys to a powerful message through a digital medium. Steve Jobs once said, ”The aesthetic, the quality, has to be carried all the way through.” He thought that, even in an email, you could create a work of art.

Within the past decade, technology has drastically changed. I remember recording guitar licks on tape, installing programs from a floppy disk, and watching movies on VCR. Nowadays, almost anything can be streamed on a mobile device from the cloud within a personalized queue. Apps are becoming the new domain through which we interact and media is becoming cheaper, more accessible, and designed in a way that renders beautiful, modern, and user-friendly.

As an aspiring designer and web developer, I’m particularly interested in how the web has changed and where it’s headed. The tools are rapidly evolving and the community is vibrant and interconnected. The question many are asking is how can I keep up with trends and maintain standards. What’s interesting, is that as our online applications grow, the market of self-education “MOOC’s” or “Massive Open Online Courses” are becoming more popular. Online courses have been around since the 90’s when the internet was just beginning, but have only recently become a powerful new phenomenon that outperforms traditional classroom learning. This market has become a huge part of my life and is one of main principles that I relate to my work. As Will Smith says, “Your talent will always fail you if you’re not skilled, you have to better yourself every single day.” I understand the power behind self-education, and it will always be a huge part of my life.

Considering my background in music and multi-faceted skill set, I’m interested in working on the front-end of a musical web platform. After studying at Berklee College of Music for four years, I’ve seen what amazing musicianship truly means and have been in touch, firsthand, with some of the best composers in the world. My diverse experience from underground music culture to historic classical orchestration, is all part of a foundation that connects me to the industry. Aside from music itself, I’ve built a strong network within the online community. My involvement in tech meetups, college seminars, hack days, and online courses have all contributed to the self-education I’ve obtained relating to web design and front-end development. It’s become a true passion and people like Paul Irish continue to inspire the way I work and what my goals are. Moving from language to language, framework to framework, blog to blog have all brought me closer to the developer I am today. More now than ever, I’m passionate about dedicating myself to the community and contributing to web standards that shape the forefront of future applications.
